Two tourists who went to swim off the Sunayama Beach on Miyako Island drowned, Thursday morning. A third man also sank under water off the same beach but was rescued.

According to Miyako Police, 49-year-old Masao Murata and 50-year-old Hiroshi Sugihara, both from Kanagawa Prefecture, had been swimming about 20 meters off the beach when they suddenly sank under water. A 49-year-old man who had been swimming together with the two, also went under water. All three were retrieved from the water and taken to a hospital where Murata and Sugihara were pronounced dead, The third man was revived and did not suffer any life-threatening damage.

Miyako Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
