Two more arrested on suspicion of spreading fake money

Okinawa Prefectural Police announced Jun. 26th the arrest of two men, said to be in their 20’s and from the middle part of Okinawa, on suspicion of conspiring to use fake money. Police arrested earlier a 19-year-old unemployed boy and a man in his 20’s in connection with the same case.

The 19-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of using a fake ¥10,000 bill at a store while the others are suspected of using forged ¥1,000 bills at a convenience store in the middle part of Okinawa. Police has not made public whether the arrested persons have admitted to the charges.

According to police investigation, the four are suspected of using fake ¥1,000 bills at a convenience store located in the middle part of the island at the end of May.  In addition, the 19-year-old boy is suspected of using a counterfeited ¥10,000 bill at another store.

The fake bills have been found at convenience and retail stores at least in six municipalities, including Yomitan, Kadena, Naha and Nago between the end of May and June.  The difference between the fake and real bills is their color and size, and the fake bills have no watermark.
