Kinser access granted by new Urasoe-USMC agreement

Mayor Tetsuji Matsumoto of Urasoe City and Col. Edmund J. Bowen, commanding officer of Camp Kinser and Combat Logistics Regiment 37, have signed a limited humanitarian access agreement at Urasoe City Hall.

The agreement ensures first responders with Urasoe City access to the Makiminato service area of Camp Kinser. The agreement was designed to save lives by reducing the response time of emergency personnel by up to 20 minutes. The new route allows first responders to bypass traffic on Highway 58 by entering Camp Kinser through Gate 3 and exiting Gate 4.

“Allowing Urasoe emergency response vehicles gate access will reduce their response time significantly,” said Paul Newman, deputy camp commander, Camp Kinser. “Allowing gate access to emergency vehicles will save lives.” CLR-37 is part of 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
