Karate postage stamp sheet goes on sale

Japan Post Okinawa Office started Friday selling sheets of postage stamps with original traditional Okinawa karate designs. Yuji Honma, the JP Okinawa Branch Manager, visited Okinawa Governor Takeshi Onaga on Thursday to present a sheet of the new stamps.

The sheets feature pictures of traditional karate “Kata” by top masters of various styles of karate. The sheets with ten ¥82 stamps each are sold for ¥1,350. The stamp sheets are available on Japan Post website from Oct, 25, and only 1,350 sheets will be available.

At the ceremony in the Prefectural Office, Honma announced, “We would like to sell a second edition of the stamp sheets to commemorate the opening of the Karate Kaikan building next March.”

In his reply, Onaga said, “I expect the stamp would encourage Karate students very much.”
