The Okinawa Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCVB) has started accepting applications for Miss Okinawa 2018 pageant.

The new Miss Okinawa will be responsible for promoting the attractions of Okinawa at events both in and outside of the prefecture. Applicants must be residents of Okinawa, 18 years old or elder females who can work as Miss Okinawa starting from January 2018 for one year.

After screening of applications and a group interview and final pageant, three young women will be selected for Miss Okinawa. Applications must be submitted by 30 September.

Haruka Kakazu and Airi Shimabukuro, both working as Miss Okinawa 2017, called for applications. Kakazu says, “Being a Miss Okinawa gives you a chance to think about the attractiveness of yourself and Okinawa. It is a good chance to improve yourself.” Shimabukuro says, “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
