Real Madrid opens soccer school in Ishigaki

One of the world’s strongest soccer clubs, Real Madrid, has teamed with its Foundation from Spain’s First League and is preparing to open a school in Ishigaki City.

The Real Madrid Foundation Academy Ishigaki is headed by Manuel Pareno Rodrigues, who’s already inspected the location in Soccer Park Akanma when the school starts in November. Real Madrid is concentrating on mostly inviting elementary school students, but says it’s also considering inviting junior high school age and older students in the future.

Toshiaki Imai is the Head Coach for the Real Madrid Foundation Academy. He has held a variety of coaching posts before, including coach of U20 and U17 of the Sudanese national junior teams, the Chinese Taipei team, Waseda University team, and J1 Kawasaki Frontale. Imai will cooperate with club coaches, as well as an assistant coach that will be invited.

Rodrigues says it’s a splendid environment. “We want to teach the training methods of Real Madrid.” Yoshitaka Nakayama, the mayor of Ishigaki City, says he welcomes the school’s opening, noting “I hope that Ishigaki children are tenacious and that they will become good soccer players with the help of Real Madrid.”
