ANA keeping small jets on China routes

The tensions between Japan and China over the Senkaku Islands issue is keeping business movements down, leading All Nippon Airways to announce it is continuing its use of smaller aircraft on China-Japan routes through December.

ANA officials say the decline in passengers continues.  The Japanese carrier began downsizing aircraft in mid-October as the Senkakus territorial issue triggered protests, demonstrations and attacks on Japanese stores and factories in China.  ANA says traffic on Chinese routes fell 24% from October a year ago.

The airline’s aircraft on the Osaka-Qingdao route is being upgraded to meet growing cargo demands in areas such as electronic components, but smaller aircraft will be flying the Narita-Beijing, narita-Shanghai and Osaka-Beijing routes.
