Praise heaped on grapes as Beaujolais Nouveau uncorked
Hundreds of wine drinkers are smiling over the 2012 Beaujolais Nouveau vintage wines, which were presented last week in a series of parties on Okinawa.
The Beaujolais Nouveau and Beaujolais Nouveau Villages wines are said to be light and fruity with a good balance of acidity and sugar content. That’s the world from the Beaujolais Nouveau importer, Suntory Holdings Ltd., which noted hailstorms and low temperatures in July caused the Beaujolais area wine grapes harvest to be half of what’s typical in a year.
The Beaujolais Nouveau wines are being sold now at supermarkets, wine bars and the Seamen’s Club. Intense price competition has eased because of the smaller available number of bottles. The Beaujolais wines are being sold in plastic bottles this year to reduce costs. Japan is one of France’s primary Beaujolais Nouveau wines customers.
