Susanoo Magic hammer Hannaryz in BJL action

The Shimane Susanoo Magic is on a role, sitting in third place in the 10-team Western Conference of the Basketball Japan League, having drubbed the Kyoto Hannaryz twice over the weekend.

The Magic, led by coach Zeljko Pavlicevic, who made an emotional return to his team following the death of his 82-year-old mother only a week earlier, picked up a 70-66 win Saturday and stretched their power to a 93-86 victory on Sunday.  The wins now have Shimane at 6-2.

The Yokohama B-Corsairs weren’t showing any mercy of their own, spoiling the coaching debut of Ryan Blackwell with the expansion Gunma Crane Thunder, who are now 0-10.  The B-Corsairs won 76-67 and 76-63.  The Toyama Grouses weren’t so lucky, picking up an 89-87 squeezer win from the Iwate Big Bulls on Saturday, only to lose 95-87 on Sunday.  The Saturday loss was the first for the Iwate squad, who are 9-1.

The Hamamatsu Higashimikawa Phoenix racked up a pair of wins against the hapless Miyazaki Shining Suns, winning 112-77 in the first match, and then 139-83 in the second stanza.  The Shining Suns are now 1-7, while the Phoenix improved to 7-3.  The Chiba Jets were also twice victorious, dumping the Saitama Broncos 96-81 and 86-78.

The Albirex BB roared to a pair of victories over the Shinshu Brave Warriors, picking up an easy 77-59 win Saturday and hanging on for an 81-79 win on Sunday.  The Brave Warriors are now 5-3, the same level as the Albirex BB.  The Northern Happinets rolled past the Tokyo Cinq Reves 90-70 on Saturday, and then did it again 76-65 on Sunday.  The Akita squad is now 6-0, leading the Eastern Conference with the same record as Okinawa’s Ryukyu Golden Kings.
