Man arrested for attempted voting fraud

Naha police arrested an unemployed man, 26-yer-old Yoshikatsu Nakagawa, who professes to live in Kumoji district of Naha City, on a charge of violating the Public Offices Election Law (voting fraud), on December 16. Investigators say Nakagawa tried to vote using other person’s polling station admission ticket in the election of the members of the House of Representatives on same day.

Naha police are grilling Nakagawa about his motive, how did he get the ticket, and where he voted.

According to the arrest charge Nakagawa presented another person’s polling station admission ticket at a polling station set up in Kumoji Elementary School, at 7:20 p.m. on Dec. 16, and requested to be issued a ballot, and then tried to vote.
