Refusing breath alcohol test nets arrest

Okinawa Police arrested a 47-year-old civilian military contractor, David Hosmer, who has no fixed address, on charge of violating the Road Traffic Law. Police say Hosmer refused a drinking detection test on Dec. 17.

A police officer who had stopped Hosmer, asked him repeatedly to blow into a drinking detection balloon that measures alcohol in the breath, but Hosmer refused.

Hosmer denies the charge saying he had not drank alcohol.

The police say that when they stopped Hosmer on Prefectural Road 27 in Hiyane, Okinawa City at 1:05 a.m. on Dec. 17, he repeatedly refused the alcohol test.
