Airman killed in motorcycle accident

An airman riding on a motorcycle crashed into a mini car in Sunabe on Jan. 18.

According to Okinawa Police, 28-year-old Douglas Bearson, a military member assigned to Kadena Air Base, rode his large 1100cc motorcycle on Hwy 58 at 11 p.m. when he crashed into the back of a mini car driven by a 37-year-old female dental assistant.

As a result of the crash, both the motorcycle and Bearson smashed into a palm tree on the central divider. Bearson was taken to a hospital, but he died of his injuries next day.

According to Okinawa police, the accident occurred on a clear, straight road, when the minicar and the motorcycle both ran on the right lane.

Okinawa police continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
