A passer-by noticed a mini-car in the bottom of the sea by the mooring pier in Toya Fishing Port in Yomitan at 9:20 a.m., Jan. 9, and called the police and fire station.

Kadena police and Nirai Fire Station rescue crew arrived at the site, where they found a man in his  80’s  inside the mini-car.

Rescue crew retrieved the old man from the car still alive, but in a cardiopulmonary arrest, and he was taken to a hospital. However, the revival efforts were not successful and the man was pronounced dead a couple of hours later.

Kadena Police continues investigating the circumstances and cause why the mini-car fell into the ocean.
