Okinawa Convention Bureau promotes Okinawa in Russia

The Okinawa Convention Bureau that is the authority for promoting Okinawa, and attracting tourists from overseas, gave a presentation on the virtues of the island at the 20th Moscow International Exhibition of Travel & Tourism (MITT) in Russia, the biggest tourism exhibition in the country that was held Mar. 20 through 23. The presentation marked the first time the bureau has made such a presentation on its own.

Some tourist companies from Okinawa also attended the exhibition, and promoted Okinawa tours and travel with the OCVB.

According to JNTO (Japan National Tourism Organization), the number of tourists from Russia last year totaled 50,200, who on average stayed 16.6 days. That is much longer than the average for all foreign visitors who stay only 6.5 days.

A staff member at the OCVB said “We are sure Russian and other foreign tourists would be interested in Okinawa considering that it’s such a warm place with much nature surrounding it not to mention the original culture and history of the island. We’ll keep promoting our island including remote islands to foreigners.”
