Woman arrested for attempted robbery

A woman was arrested at a Yakiniku (roasted beef) restaurant in Nishihara because on suspicion of an attempted robbery.

Police say she had pointed a knife to the staff of the restaurant around 5 p.m. Feb. 24. She looks to be about 30 to 40 of age, but has so far kept silent while in police custody.

According to Urasoe Police, the woman entered the restaurant around 5 p.m. as the restaurant was getting ready to open. They say the woman pointed a knife to a male staff member of the restaurant and asked him to hand over money. The staff took the knife away from her, took her out of the restaurant to outside, and pinned her on the road. Other staff called the police saying “We are holding a woman who has a knife.”

There were a few male or female staff in the restaurant at thae time of the robbery attempt, but no one was injured.
