Ready to go! Windsurfers are taking off from the shore to challenge the course off Hotel Moon Beach.

Entries are still being accepted for participants in this weekend’s 17th Kachi Bay Cup, a battle of windsurfing off the shores of Moon Beach in Onna Village.

Windsurfing is at its best an exhilarating sport requiring skills, daring and love for ocean.

A total of 80 windsurfing enthusiasts are welcome in the event, which runs 9 a.m. ~ 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. ~ 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.  Admission is free for those only watching, and only ¥10,000 to participate.  The entry fee includes rental equipment for the two days, lunch, insurance and the after-party fee.  Call (098) 858-7393 to register.

The Kachi Bay Cup is a convention of windsurfing held with Okinawa’s windsurfing league sponsorship. Although there are many points where this convention is attractive, the most attractive thing is that participants all enjoy windsurfing.

More than raw bare-knuckle competition, participants can expect to enjoy friendships and good time with like-minded people.

Aside from the racing challenges during the 17th Kachi Bay Cup, lunchtime, free time, and an after party, are prepared and participants can mix and mingle with each other. Since each race is prepared according to sex and age, from the beginner to the master, participants can enter in the race suitable for their personal skills.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, with ceremonies and the skippers’ meeting at 9:30 a.m. Free sailing begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 12:45 p.m., with the lunch break beginning at noon.  Races begin at 1 p.m. and run to 3:30 p.m., followed at 6 p.m. by a welcome party.
