April sees slightly less people on dole in Japan

The ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare published on Jul. 10 the numbers of people receiving public living assistance in Japan.

According to the ministry figures, there were 33,309 people receiving public living assistance in Okinawa in April. That is 154 less than in March that had been the highest on record in the nation. But the number of households receiving public support was 23,794 in April, which again set a new record.

In April 2013 there were a total of 2,151,943 people who are receiving public support throughout Japan, and 1,578,032 households, and both number fewer than the month before turning the rising trend of the past 11 consecutive months through March.

However, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, every April the number of persons receiving public assistance decreases because children graduate schools and get jobs, especially in April.
