Okinawa Kodomo no Kuni Eisa Festival
Eisa dance by local children’s groups and young men’s associations is on tap the first weekend in August at the Okinawa Kodomo no Kuni Eisa Festival in Okinawa City.
The Eisa Festival takes place August 3rd and 4th at the Pond and Green Space at the Okinawa Kodomo no Kuni, the Okinawa City Zoo. The festival runs 4 p.m. ~ 9 p.m. both days. Admission is ¥500 for adults, ¥200 for junior high school and high school students, and ¥100 for kids of age four through elementary school. Admission is free for children three years of age and younger.
As this Eisa festival is performed in Kodomo-no-kuni, performers are very close to the spectators, permitting visitors to enjoy Eisa at point-blank range.
In addition, a toy exchange event is included in the program, where children bring toys that they don’t play with any more and exchange them for something that they want that is brought to the event by other children. The toy exchange takes place from 1:30 p.m.~ 4:30 p.m. Children who do not bring a toy can participate in a workshop held earlier on the same day, where they can earn points, which can be then exchanged for a toy.
