Okinawa Island basking under clear blue skies and scorching sun brought by a stable high-pressure front recorded the hottest day of the year on Aug. 2 when the temperature in Naha soared to 34.8 ºC. Besides being a record for this year it also was the fifth hottest day ever on record.

On the same day 34.7 ºC was recorded on Aguni Island and 33.7 on Kume Island, which are the highest this year on both locations.

Okinawa Metrological Agency says the hot and clear weather continue at least through early August.
