A fisherman discovered a man floating on the ocean about 450 meters off Kudaka Island in Nanjo City about 1 p.m., on Aug. 1.

The drowned man was identified as the owner of pleasure boat “Kaisei-maru,” 64-year-old Toshio Ganaha. The boat was floating upside down near-by.

The Maritime Safety Agency responded to a call from the fisherman, and recovered the body by a helicopter that took Ganaha to Naha Airport. However, he was confirmed dead on arrival at a hospital.
