People sleeping on street to face penalty

According to Miyakojima Police the number of people found sleeping on streets because of intoxication is on increase.

This year alone, between January and August, Miyako Police has counted 479 such cases, and say it is a time to reduce the number.

In a matter of fact, there has been a penalty in the books for persons found sleeping on the street. They are subject to a fine of ¥50,000, although the penalty has not been applied for over 10 years. Instead, until now, police would wake up or shelter the person found on the street, but say from now on they may start enforcing the law and offenders could face the penalty charge.
