Prefecture to host worldwide Karate & Kobudo Seminar

Another ‘first’ is being recorded on the island next week as Okinawa Prefecture hosts the 1st Okinawa Traditional Karate and Kobudo Worldwide Seminar.

The six-day international seminar September 9th ~ 14th takes place in Okinawa Martial Arts Hall (Okinawa Kenritsu Budokan) in Onoyama Park in Naha. Six programs are included in the seminar series, providing practical training in all forms and styles of karate techniques, and a tour around places related to Karate.  The seminars are sponsored by Okinawa Prefecture and The Okinawa Karate-Do Shinko-kai, the Society for the Advancement of Traditional Okinawa Karate. The week-long seminar costs ¥20,000 to participate.

All participants who complete all the programs are awarded the very first Completion Certificate by the Okinawa Prefectural Government, and the Okinawa Karate-do Shinko-kai.

The Goju-Ryu Seminar features Yoshio Hichiya, a Hansi 10 Dan, Morio Higaonna, Eiki Kuroshita, a Hanshi 10 Dan, Takashi Okuma and Masaaki Ikemiyagi, both Hanshi 9 Dan, and Meitetsu Yagi and Koei Teruya, both Hanshi 10 Dan.  Leading the Uechi-Ryu Seminare are Ryuko Tomoyose, Takenobu Uehara, Yoshitsune Senaga and Tsutomu Nakahodo, all Hanshi 10 An, and Kiyohide Shinjo, a Kyoshi 8 Dan.

Seminar 3, Shorin-Ryu, features Yoshitaka Taira and Kiyomasa Maeda, both Hanshi 10 Dan. Kobudo  is Seminar 4, led byMasahiro Nakamoto and Naonobu Ahagon, both Hanshi 10 Dan, and Seisho Itokazu and Seiki Takushi, both Hanshi 9 Dan.

Shorin-Ryu is being taught by Seitoku Ishikawa, Minoru Higa and Minoru Nakazato, all Hanshi 10 Dan, and Seisho Itokazu, Hanshi 9 Dan. The second Shorin-Ryu Seminar is led by Zenpo Shimabukuro and ChokoKyuna, both Hanshi 10 Dan, and Hitoshi Oyakawa and Tsuyoshi Uechi, both Kyoshi 8 Dan.
