Ghouls wanted for annual Mihama Halloween Costume Contest

The annual Mihama Halloween Costume Contest takes place on Oct. 31.

Ghosts and goblins—not to mention a host of other Halloween ghouls who start coming out this time of year—are again being offered an opportunity to show off as Chatan Mihama American Village announces plans for its annual Halloween costume contest.

The event will be held Thursday, October 31st from 6 ~ 8:30 p.m., with registration starting at 2 p.m. The contest will be held on a blocked-off street just next to the Ferris wheel at Mihama American Village in Chatan. Advance online registration for the costume contest is open through Oct. 28 at

http://www.okinawa-americanvillage.com. The on-line registration is limited to 150 entries. Registration on the day of the contest takes place from 2 to 6 p.m. at the contest site, and is limited to 50 entries.

The contest itself is held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and the awards ceremony from 7:30 to 8:20 p.m.

The main event is for anyone 13 years of age and older, with the 1st prize of $500 in cash, 2nd prize of $300, and the third prize $150. Fourth through tenth place prizes earn assorted merchandise from Mihama American Village sponsors.

Competition for children up to 12-year-old has a Super Jumbo Box of assorted goodies as the 1st prize, the 2nd prize is a Jumbo Box, the 3rd prize a Big Box, and 4th ~ 10th prizes are assorted candies.

Participating businesses in the Mihama American Village are marked with a “Pumpkin Mark” and offer candy to trick and treaters on Oct. 31.

Halloween Mihama 2013 Costume Contest Executive Committee (consisting of Mihama American Village Jigyosha Kai, Mihama American Village Tenant Kai, Chatan Town Tourist Association and Chatan Chamber of Commerce) is the sponsor of the contest as a cultural exchange event between Okinawa and the United States.

American Consulate General, American Chamber of Commerce in Okinawa, Chatan Town, Chatan Board of Education, Okinawa Times, Ryukyu Shimpo, Weekly Lequio, NHK Okinawa, TBC, OTV, QAB, Radio Okinawa, FM OOkinawa and FM Nirai support the event.
