Gorbachev cancels Okinawa visit

Former Soviet Union President and Nobel Price winner Mikhail Gorbachev has cancelled his trip to Okinawa that was scheduled to take place Nov. 7.

Gorbachev was to be a special guest at a panel discussion titled “Reflecting the future of East Asia and Okinawa with Gorbachev.”

According to a spokesman for the Gorbachev Foundation, in which the 82-year-old former president is the chairman, his trip to Okinawa has been canceled due to a prolonged health examination at a hospital in Munich, Germany.
