Goveror wants 2015 Pacific Island Summit in Okinawa

Okinawa Governor Hirokazu Nakaima asked the government in Tokyo, Wednesday, to hold the next Pacific Islands Summit in Okinawa.

The summit is held every three years, and the last meeting was in Nago in 2012. The next summit is scheduled for 2015, and several prefectures and cities have expressed interest in hosting the event.

According to Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga, the location of the next summit will be decided after Japan Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida meets ministers from Pacific island nations in Tokyo on Oct. 26.
