Dressed to impress! Or at least as long as these creatures do not walk on you on a dark alley…

Halloween is a time for ghosts, goblins and ghouls to put in appearances on Okinawa, and nowhere is that more the case than at Mihama American Village, where next Thursday’s activities promise to be a fun-filled time for everyone.

Alien has gotten a hot date…

Halloween Mihama 2013 involves the merchants of Mihama American Village, with everything from trick-or-treat goodies being handed out, to an extremely popular costume contest that is open to “kids” of all ages.  The entire Okinawan community is invited to the Oct. 31st evening event.

The Mihama American Village will have the street blocked off just past the Ferris wheel toward the beach for the fun. The main costume contest kicks off at 6 p.m., following an afternoon of registration. Advance

Some are natural…

registration continues on line through Oct. 28, but organizers will let last minute entries in, if there are spaces still available among the 150 slots for the competition.

Ten prizes are at stake, including a $500 first prize, $300 2nd prize and $150 3rd price. Fourth through tenth place finishers win various assorted merchandise from Mihama American Village shops. The costume competition is open to everyone 13 years of age or older. The contest begins at 6 p.m., and ends with the award ceremony by 8:30 p.m. There’s also a competition for kids age 12 and under, with a 1st prize Super Jumbo Box of assorted candies, a 2nd prize of a Jumbo Box, a 3rd prize of a Big Box of candies, and assorted candies going to winners in 4th ~ 10th place.
Throughout the American village, shops and sponsors will be participating by distributing candy trick-or-treat style, and offering freebies and discounts. The U.S. military community is welcome for the event, which is a cultural exchange sponsored by the Chatan Mihama American Village Jigyosha Kai and the Chatan Tourist Association.

Plaza House event takes place Sunday.

Mihama’s not the only place within the American sphere of bases influence to be hosting Halloween specials.  Plaza House Mall is also rolling out the trick-or-treat atmosphere.  Plaza House is sponsoring a Roger’s Kids Halloween Party on Sunday the 27th, starting at 2:30 p.m. in Plaza House Mall, on the 2nd floor of North Square.

The fun begins with a costume parade inside Plaza House, and there’ll be another year of having the Plaza House kids’ costume contest.  The winner receives a special gift from Roger’s.
