Police pulls out gun to drunken boy

Yonabaru Police received a complaint from a citizen, Monday evening, regarding a group of young boys drinking in a public park.

When a police patrol arrived at the scene, a senior police officer in his 50s, and a 17-year-old construction worker from the group started an argument, and when the boy would not back down, the policeman held out his baton, which the boy grabbed from his hand.

That’s when the policeman pulled out his gun, hitting the boy on the head with it, ostensibly by mistake, inflicting a scratch. The gun was not fired, and its safety lock was still on.

According to the Okinawa Prefectural Police, the officer’s action was justified although some experts say the action the policeman took may have been excessive, and a full inquiry is necessary.

According to other members of the group who were in the park at the time of the incident, the boy grabbed the police by the collar and round the neck, putting up a fight.
