Three days of rock’n roll, fun on Torii Beach

Music is non-stop as no less than 27 bands belt out their best tunes over the three-day festival.

It’s being billed as the ultimate rock event on Okinawa, and the U.S. Army’s Torii Station officials say the Oct. 11-13 weekend on-base event this year is even bigger and better than before, and the entire community, locals and Americans alike, are invited to come “rock out under the stars on the best beach on the island!”

This year’s Rocktoberfest features 27 bands over three nights starting on Friday evening when the gates open at 4 p.m. Besides local bands the line-up includes performers from Tokyo, Osaka, Shizuoka, Nagoya and Kanagawa, and even bands from Ireland, Spain and Canada.

Admission to the festival is free, and besides non-stop music, the events include car & motorbike display, burn-outs and pro-skater performances. And, of course, plenty of food and cold beer, and flat-out fun.

Organizers remind revelers that personal alcoholic beverages, food, glass items, pets, coolers and canopies are not allowed on the site. They especially urge guests to refrain from drinking and driving, and assure that there are enough taxis and daiko services to get everyone home safely.

Besides a steady progression of bands, Rocktoberfest features a car and bike show and other attractions.
