Uruma City is famous for its Lion dance groups.

Okinawa’s summer isn’t over yet, at least in the eyes of Uruma City officials who are hosting the 8^th Uruma City Festival this Saturday and Sunday.

The festival has plenty of challenges to show off physical strength.

Uruma City Comprehensive Athletic Park is the venue for the free two-day festival, which runs 9 a.m. ~ 9 p.m. both days.  On Saturday, The Boom’s lead singer, Kazufumi Miyazawa, is collaborating with Okinawan singer Yoriko Ganeko in the main stage.  Substages will feature arm wrestling and karaoke competitions.

On Sunday, there’s a Ryujin Mabuya Show for kids, as well as the famous lion dance and eisa. Food stands will be spread around the festival venue, offering a variety of different Okinawan and western delights. Fireworks cap the festivities both days.
