And this week’s winner is…

This week’s lucky winner of the weekly Japan Update raffle is Andrew Michels, who won a pair of tickets to the third subscription concert of the Ryukyu Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra “io.”  The concert takes place on Christmas Day at Palette Kumoji Civic Theater in Naha, and features music by Aram Khachaturian, Bela Bartok and Joaquin Turina. Eisuke Fujino will conduct the concert.

Andrew has been on Okinawa two and half years and has about another one and half to go before he moves on. He is originally from Peoria, IL, and says that his life on Okinawa has been nothing but amazing. “There is a lot of culture, history and beauty to explore on this island,” he says, adding “I feel rally lucky that I got stationed here. And besides it gave me a chance to get to know Coco’s curry, which is something to tell about back home.”

Besides exploring events and festival in various places around Okinawa, Andrew would like to get a chance to visit mainland Japan and see historical sites, temples and landmarks around there. “I have seen plenty of picture of those places in magazines and on the Internet, but it would be really cool to see them in person,” he says.
