Ginowan Industrial Festival is community event

Goat fights are one of visitors’ favorites at Ginowan Industrial Fair, Saturday.

Ginowan City is marking the start of its sixth decade as an Okinawa municipality this year, and is hosting this weekend’s 24th Ginowan City Industrial Festival as a major community event.

Tasting local products is part of the festival.

The free festival takes place at the Ginowan City Square, across from Ginowan City Hall, from 10 a.m. ~ 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. ~ 5 p.m. on Sunday. Ginowan City officials say they’re ecstatic with the steady growth the city’s experienced over the past few years, and remain optimistic development will continue. For Ginowan City, the Industrial Festival is one of the city’s largest festivals as a competitive show with displays, exhibits on sale and a means of promoting friendship between citizens.

The Ginowan festival features many events aimed for children.

Organizers say the agriculture and forestry and marine products are well received by visitors, who often become customers of its farmers and manufacturers. The City itself is promoted, as are commerce and industry products. Producers operating within the city are all encouraged to participate, exchange goods, services and information, and contribute to development of the city’s industry.

The festival features many activities for children like the fish catching contest. Saturday kicks off with “how to keep a dog” consultation meetings at 10 a.m. A Pepsi-Coke quick drinker competition gets people together at 1:30 p.m., followed at 2:10 p.m. by goat fighting. Also in the afternoon is a Talent Academy Musical Show, followed by Johnny Ginowan Live at 4 p.m.

Sunday brings the soft drink challenges again, with a Pepsi-Coke quick drinker competition at 12:40 p.m. An arm wrestling competition follows at 1:10 p.m. and a musical show at 2:40 p.m. A snatching off fish competition starts at 3 p.m., using numbered tickets being distributed from noon on. The World’s best Hip Hop Dance, the Homeland Street Dance, is at 3:20 p.m., with the Children’s Flower Bracken Dance at 4 p.m.
