Personal water craft, or PWC, popularly known as jet skis, are popular toys on Okinawa. Besides for just zipping around off resorts and beaches, they are used for serous racing. And this Sunday, the best Okinawan jet ski riders gather to Chatan’s Araha Beach for the 6th Araha Marine Festival PWC Tournament to see who’s who among the serious riders.
In each race a pair of riders face each other and the winner of the heat proceeds to the next stage. A heat consists of two rounds on the course. The races are held in three classes in which prizes are awarded; Ski
Class, Sports Class and Runabout Class.
The races start from 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day until 5 p.m. Admission to the beach is free, and as the race track runs just off shore spectators have a good view to see top notch performances by the island’s best.
