Decomposed body found on Camp Foster
Japanese construction workers tearing down old government housing units of Futenma Housing on Camp Foster have come across a decomposed body.
U.S. officials confirm it was a human body, noting it was decomposed “beyond recognition”, discovered in a former housing area being readied for turnover to the Japanese government. The body was turned over to Japanese authorities.
An investigation is under way, with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service the lead agency. No details are being released, other than to note the body is thought to be an adult, but that gender has not been confirmed, or how long the body may have been at the location.
The U.S. is in the process of consolidating bases and facilities on Okinawa, turning back unneeded parcels of land, housing areas and buildings.
