The Japanese Ministry of Defense announced that the Camp Foster Futenma housing area, 51 hectares of land, will be returned to its owners by March 2015. The old family housing units in the area are currently being demolished.

Ginowan City and landowners are currently in the process of negotiating a new land utilization plan for the area located just south of the new U.S. Navy hospital. Okinawa Prefecture is reportedly considering building a baryon cancer treatment facility on the site.
