Police chase of a motorcycle ended in a crash on Route 58 in Tomari, Naha City, around midnight on Monday.
According to Naha City Police, a police patrol became suspicious of a motorcycle when it suddenly changed direction. When the patrol asked the motorcyclist to stop, the driver revved his engine instead and tried to escape, and the police gave a chase.
During the chase the motorcycle scraped a guard rail pipe and fell down. The driver fractured his left leg when he fell.
The driver of the motorcycle was a 18-year-old high school student from Naha who did not have a driver’s license. A police spokesman emphasized, “The patrol car kept its distance from the motorcycle in accordance with our rules, and there was no problem with the way the patrol conducted the chase.”
