Rank insignia found on war victim remains

Volunteer group “Gamafuya” exploring caves in search of remains of people who perished during the Battle of Okinawa found remains of what appeared to be those of three men in the Maeda district of Urasoe City, Nov. 27.

On one set of remains was found a rank insignia indicating that the victim had been a Japanese soldier.

Gamafuya representative Takamatsu Gushiken stated, “This find is valuable as it helps us to figure out the identity of the remains.” He said that the aim is to locate the family of the deceased and deliver the remains to them.
