U.S. military man confesses to Tomigusuku hit and run
A 29-year-old serviceman in the custody of the U.S. Military Police has admitted causing a hit-and-run accident in Tomigusuku, Saturday.
According to Tomigusuku Police, a car with “Y” registration plates veered onto the oncoming lane on Route 11 in Takayasu, Tomigusuku City, early Saturday morning, and crashed into a car coming from the opposite direction.
After the crash, two men in the car that caused the accident, drove away, left their car on a nearby parking lot, and fled the scene.
A 46-year-old office worker whose car got hit suffered a fractured his wrist.
Investigators say the driver of the Y-plate car, escaped to Camp Schwab but was then apprehended by the military police.
When apprehended, he was also found to have alcohol in his system, but he claims that he was sober at the time of the accident that happened five hours before he was arrested by the MPs. He has admitted to causing the accident and fleeing the scene.
The suspect is now in military police custody pending further investigation by both the military and local Japanese police.
