Wadaiko Fureai Festival focuses on drums

The 6th Okinawa Wadaiko Fureai Festival takes place Sunday, bringing to life a variety of Japanese drums, drummers and dances.

The free festival is being held at the Yomitan Culture Center Otori Hall in Yomitan Village, beginning Sunday at 5 p.m.  The Okinawa National Institution for Youth Education sponsors the festival.

Breathtaking sounds of the drums set the stage for a spectacular performance.  Okinawa’s Wadaiko groups perform beautiful dances, where the breathtaking sounds of the drums pierce the heart and inspire listeners.  Youth performers are among those on stage, bringing drum circles together for a fun-filled evening.

Admission is free, but upon arrival at the concert hall, visitors must register and receive a numbered entry ticket.
