Coming of Age Day saw fewer new adults

Jan. 13th was the Coming of Age Day, a national holiday in Japan. In Okinawa, 19 cities, villages and towns held traditional ceremonies a day early, on Sunday.

The new adults attended the ceremonies in their finest clothes, suits for men and kimonos for the young ladies.

According to Okinawa Prefecture officials, there were a total of 17,136 new adults in the prefecture, 187 fewer than last year. This marked the second time the count decreased from the previous year.
