Purse-snatchings reported in Naha, Yonabaru
Okinawa Prefectural Police said they had received reports of a two purse snatchings targeting elderly women that occurred in Nahs and Yonabaru, Wednesday.
In Naha, a 82-year-old woman was walking on a street near Matsuyama Intersection in Naha’s Kumoji district about 3 p.m., when a man riding on a bicycle snatched her drawstring purse after approaching her from behind. The purse contained ¥14,000 in cash. After snatching the purse, the man rode away in the direction of Kumoji River.
In Yonabaru, about one hour later, a man approached a 69-year-old woman walking on the street, and suddenly snatched her purse that contained ¥18,000 in cash. The robber then escaped the scene in a white car that had been waiting near by, driven by another man.
Okinawa Prefectural Police are continuing an investigation and looking for suspects. Neither woman was hurt in the crimes.
