Quarter of shoplifters are senior citizens

According to National Police Agency statistics, the number of shoplifters aged 65 or older caught in the nation by November was the highest on the record totaling 256, which is 25.2 percent of the total shoplifting cases.

Police say the elderly typically shoplift low price items such as delicatessens and bread products. The count of shoplifting seniors has even exceeded that of juveniles.

The National Police Agency say in most cases the reason is not financial, but because those seniors feel isolated from the society. The police Agency urges the whole society to engage in more communication, and seek opportunity to associate with one another.
