Drunk driver sentenced to five years in prison

The 20-year-old university student who lost control of his car while drunk, and ran over two people on a sidewalk killing one and injuring the other in November, was sentenced to five years in prison.

The Naha District Court sentenced the defendant, Kazumasa Hiroshi, on Feb. 5th. Handing down the five-year term, Judge Shinichi Suzushima stated, “The defendant began to drink alcohol with the knowledge that it would lead to driving drunk. His actions were extremely dangerous and vicious.”

Prosecutors had demanded a six-year jail term in the case.
