Ryukyu no Hana Migui touts flowers, music at Shuri Castle
Shuri Castle’s Suimuikan grass space is the venue for Ryukyu no Hana Migui, now in progress through February 11th.
Colorful flowers are in full bloom at Shuri Castle, leading event organizers to remind visitors to bring cameras as they visit any day from 8 a.m. ~ 6 p.m. Admission is free, for the most part, although there are a few events and activities requiring an admission fee.
On Saturday and Sunday there will also be a special stage and performances featuring local bands, students from the Okinawa Prefectural University of Performing Arts and Shuri High School brass band. The shows will be performed three times each day at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
There will also be trial sessions for Sanshin, the Okinawan guitar-like instrument, twice every day at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., where visitors can try their hand at playing one with a professional instructor at hand, each session running for a half-hour. The first five visitors to arrive at each time slot will be able to participate for free.
