Due to scheduled consumption tax increase on April 1, taxi fares on Okinawa will rise at the same time.

The starting and meter tick-up fares will stay the same, but the distance they cover will be shorter.

At a meeting on Monday, between the Okinawa General Bureau and Okinawa Hire Taxi Association officials in Naha City, a decision was made to keep the starting price the same ¥500 as before, but it will cover only the first 1.75 kilometers, 50 meters less than currently. After the first 1.75 km the meter will tick up \60 every 349 meters that is 10 meters less than now.
