Miyako Island achieves zero traffic deaths

Miyako Island Police received an achievement recognition for two consecutive years of zero traffic deaths.

The Okinawa Prefecture Police and Okinawa Prefecture Road Safety Department held a commendation ceremony in Miyakojima City, Mar. 17th. In his speech during the ceremony, Miyako Police Chief Eishin Miyagi said, “This is a result of the local municipality and volunteers actively helping with the problem. This was possible thanks to Miyako Island total power.”

Among the 14 police departments in the prefecture, two consecutive years of zero traffic deaths have been recorded only twice after Okinawa was returned to Japan in 1972. This was the first such award for Miyako Island.
