PED infected pig found on Okinawa

The Okinawa Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries announced on Feb 28th, that a pig infected with Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED) was found on a ranch in the southern part of Okinawa.

This is the second confirmation this year after the first case was discovered on Jan. 21st when nine pigs were found infected with the disease but none died.

In Okinawa, this epidemic broke out last October, when it was found on three ranches. A total of 233 pigs were infected and 75 died. Okinawa Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries are looking into relations between the first outbreak and the newest one found.
