Police suspect arson; three fires in two hours

Okinawa City fire fighters had a busy time Friday evening, when they were alerted of three fires within a span of two hours, all of which happened within a radius of 100 meters from each other.

Alarm bells rang first about 7:20 p.m. when a blue tarpaulin was found burning on a parking lot in Jouzenchou. The next fire was found about an hour later, this time in Ageda, where a bundle of magazines was burning on another parking lot. And finally, around 9:20 p.m., a resident discovered a fire on the first floor and parking lot of a concrete two-story building in Teruya. Nine fire engines rushed to the scene, and managed to put off the fire by around midnight, although the entire building burned down. No one was reported injured in the fires.

Okinawa City Police are suspecting all three to be arsons, and are continuing the investigation.
