Anything goes at Locked On! Vale Tudo tournament

Friends of contact sports have a chance to enjoy a bit different style of fights this Sunday when a Locked On! Tournament takes place at Namura Hall in Matsuyama, Naha City.

The matches at the tournament are fought in Brazilian “Vale Tudo” fighting style. “Vale Tudo” is Portuguese meaning “anything goes” and is a form of fighting with very few rules. It became popular in Brazil during the latter half of the 20th century. Vale Tudo uses techniques from many martial art styles making it similar to modern mixed martial arts.

The Outsider is a tournament organizer of mixed martial arts fought by semi- professional fighters and produced by Akira Maeda and sponsored by Rings Co., Ltd.  The Locked On! fights are fought in the 60-65-kg weight class.

In addition to Vale Tudo fights, the event has kickboxing bouts as well. Okinawa born fighter Takashi Miyagi brings local color to the tournament.

Namura Hall is located in Matsuyama, Naha, and is at http://goo.gl/maps/dZRBe. Doors to the venue open at 4 p.m. and the gong for the first bout goes off at 5 p.m.
