Crane arm breaks off causing brief blackout

An arm of a crane broke off on a construction site in Ginowan, Monday, and fell on a power line, causing a brief blackout in the neighborhood homes. Three traffic lights also went out.

According to Ginowan Police, the crane broke as the crew on the site were using it to lift materials on a three-story apartment building under construction in Ojana, Ginowan City. The arm cut a power line, but no one was injured.

Three traffic lights in the nearby area went out and, according to the Okinawa Electric Power Co., Inc., 2,100 homes lost power for a brief period because of the incident. Ginowan City Police are continuing an investigation into the cause of the mishap.
