An elderly woman crossing the street was critically injured when she was ran over by a car driven by a 45-year-old office worker from Naha City, on Hwy 58 in Iramina, Yomitan Village, Sunday afternoon.

According to Kadena Police, the 87-year-old woman from Yomitan was trying to cross the road on a straight stretch of the road at a spot where there was no traffic light or pedestrian crossing.

The woman was taken to a hospital with a fractured pelvis. She is listed as conscious but in critical condition.

Kadena Police are continuing the investigation.
